New Legislation September 2020

The Government have amended the Taking Control of Goods and (Amendment) (Coronavirus) Regulations 2020 that came into force from the 25th April. The government announced Wednesday 16th September that the protection from forfeiture given to relevant business tenants under s82 of the Coronavirus Act will be extended until March 2021.

The temporary changes to Commercial Rent Arrears Recovery (CRAR) will be extended until March 2021 and will also now prevent landlords exercising CRAR unless a landlord is owed 366 days of unpaid rent.

A new code of practice has been developed with leaders from the retail, hospitality and property sectors to provide clarity for businesses when discussing rental payments and to encourage best practice so that all parties are supported.
